MotoGP Austin: Marquez evaluates ‘scoop’ after opening day

MotoGP World Championship leader Marc Marquez said that he can feel both the positives and negatives of the new ‘scoop’ after finishing the opening day second fastest at the Circuit of the Americas.

The Spaniard, who has mastered COTA in recent years, saw his factory Honda team fit the new aerodynamic piece to his RC213V during FP2.

Despite not being able to beat out the Yamaha of Maverick Vinales in FP2 with the piece fitted, he did admit to feeling the benefits of it on his bike, he was quick to point out it also had it’s negatives.

“You saw we tried something on the swing arm, something for the stiffness,” Marquez joked after Honda stated the piece was to stiffen the swing arm.

“I feel something there that’s interesting, but sometimes it’s better to come back, try to analyse, try to understand. Of course we need to take more information about it.

“One of the differences is in the braking point and it’s downforce. There’s an aerodynamic thing, a little bit, but still we need to analyse more.

“There are some negative points. Some positives, some negatives. We need to understand which is better for our riding style.”
