MotoGP Austria: Acosta passed fit and ready to race

Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Pedro Acosta is back in the Moto2 fight for the team’s home round at the Red Bull Ring this weekend.

Eight weeks on from surgery on his fractured left leg, the reigning Moto3 Champion sits 96 points adrift of his class-leading teammate Augusto Fernandez, in ninth position, with just 33 covering the battle for the top five.

Having reached race-winning form at Mugello, only to follow it up with a second position at the Sachsenring two races later, the 18-year-old is aiming to get back his front-running momentum as soon as possible.

“I think we could have done a good race in Silverstone,” Acosta said of his unexpected ruling to sit out of the British GP. “I think was one of the tracks that we are not going to have a lot of problems about the leg. Finally now, eight weeks after the surgery, eight weeks out of the bike, we have to take again the pace.”

While a return from injury is one thing, the location brings its own added tension.

“Home GP for KTM, for Red Bull. More pressure!” Acosta acknowledged. “In the end, nothing changed. Finally, I think it's one of the tracks that we don't have a lot of problem with the leg. A lot of straights, braking, is not going to be one of the worst.

“Try to push in the correct moment, don't take a lot of risk and try to keep the leg safe.

“The objective is to take pace again,” he confirmed. “I think the first part of the year we finished in a good way. Finally, after Le Mans we start to be competitive. Augusto start to be competitive again. I think for both is good that Augusto is the leader of the championship, now only have to wait. Try to have calm and try to learn more from Augusto. Now he have all the weight on his shoulders!”
