Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 rider Sam Lowes said there were no excuses for his poor qualifying performance, after the Brit qualified down in 24th place at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.
Having to negotiate the always tricky Q1 after only managing the eighteenth fastest time in combined free practices, Lowes couldn’t find a set-up to post a competitive time in qualifying, leaving him starting down on at the back of the eighth row.
The Brit offered no excuses for why he struggled at a track he doesn’t usually go too well at.
"Terrible qualifying and I have no excuses,” said Lowes.
“I had some front-end issues that we couldn’t solve but really there’s no alibi. This is a difficult track for me and unfortunately it went this way.”
Despite the bad qualifying performance, Lowes said that he has better race pace, and will hope to battle for a top ten finish in what could be an exciting race.
“The race will be different as we have a decent pace – not perfect sure - but we can surely make up some positions and maybe even battle for the top-ten,” he said.
