MotoGP boss not prepared to extend 2020 season into 2021

MotoGP ringmaster Carmelo Ezpeleta is not prepared to run the 2020 season too long into winter as he doesn't want to impact 2021.

Currently, the coronavirus-hit series is due to start on May 17 at Le Mans but that is highly unlikely as is the aim to run all 20 races that are scheduled as the season now finishes on November 29.

"We cannot extend the season too much to winter and thus disrupt the 2021 season. We can also put together a shorter season this year so that we can again run all World Cup rounds next year," said Ezpeleta.

"We will see how the situation turns out, because the world will be different after the virus. The most important thing is that we recover well from it."

With races being moved to the end of the year, there are now eight events in ten weeks with two sets of three back-to-back meetings with only a week break.
