Aspar’s Jake Dixon finished an eight lap Moto2 dash just shy of the podium after rain struck the Thai Grand Prix on Sunday.

With the Chang international Circuit’s conditions and visibility deteriorating in the torrential rain, the intermediate class action was aborted at half-race distance, with half points awarded after a restart was also abandoned.

Having battled with the leading group from the outset on the Inde GasGas, Dixon completed the challenging laps fourth having missed out on the podium two laps before the red flag came out.

“Crazy race,” Dixon said on Sunday. “It was just a matter of survival and I rode well within myself because I wanted to finish.

“I was close to [Aron] Canet when the red flag came out so it could have potentially been another podium or maybe more, who knows. The heavier the rain was the less risk I wanted to take.

“When the bike is aquaplaning along the straight at 150mph it doesn’t matter how much talent you have.

“Anyway, another solid result and we’ll enjoy the week off before Phillip Island.”
