Jake Dixon’s second day at the Sachsenring couldn’t have been more different from the first as the Brit sailed his Petronas into the German GP’s Q2 from ninth position. 

Improving his Friday pace by well over a second, the 25-year-old looked far more at home on his SRT Kalex in Saturday’s FP3, completing 18 laps and securing direct entry to the pole shootout with his 1’24.612 time, set on his fourth lap of the morning. 

As seems to be the norm for the Moto2 class, the hot-laps came in the opening minutes of the final qualifier with Dixon emulating his earlier effort almost exactly - a 1’24.611 - to secure his place on the fifth row, in 15th. The Brit continued to circulate for the remainder of the session as he worked to maintain a consistent pace. 

“After the struggles in recent races, I am now feeling some confidence again,” Dixon said this afternoon.

“I want to say a massive thank you to the team for what they’ve done for me, and we can already see that things are starting to pay off. In some ways this weekend is more of a test for us, as my new crew chief learns about my bike and me, but overall I’m really happy. 

"I felt really good in FP3, where we were ninth, and then we didn't make any changes to the bike. We’ll analyse everything tonight though and see what we can do to improve for tomorrow’s race, but my pace is really good so I’m looking forward to it.”
