MotoGP Germany: I am not sliding like I want – Marquez

Marc Marquez said that he is not sliding like he wants as he focused on used tyre runs on the opening day of free practice for the German MotoGP at the Sachsenring.

The World Champion arrived in Germany heavy favourite after dominating every race he has had there since his 125cc days and used the opening day to work on race pace and tyres ahead of Sundays race.

Marquez elected to not go for the one lap pace with soft tyres like fastest man Jorge Lorenzo did, instead doing longer runs on harder rubber to try and figure out what combination to use for the race. Despite not looking overly special on the timing sheets, Marquez was happy with his start.

"The feeling today was good it was important to start with a good base and we are starting strong," said Marquez.

"Step by step we need to improve in a few areas because this year I think on Sunday it will be very tight because we have good weather all weekend. So everybody can find the best step up and it will be a tough race."

When asked what areas he needs to improve on, Marquez mentioned feel around the front tyre and then working on sliding the bike in the areas and the way he wants to.

"One of the keys is to try to improve the front tyre, we tried the hard front and it was a little bit better but with a few weak points," he explained.

"But then on the bike I still need to improve the turning, I am not sliding like I want. It’s something that on this circuit is important and I will try to manage or to find the way to slide like I want."
