MotoGP Germany: Kent demolishes Moto3 pack

Britain’s Danny Kent has sent a warning shot across the bows of his Moto3 competition in first practice at the Sachsenring Moto3 round with a lap some six-tenths of a second quicker than the next best rider.

Kent put in a 1’27.026 on his 16th circuit to go 0.640s faster than Fabio Quartararo who set his time of 1’27.666 by grabbing on to the back of Kent’s Leopard Honda when Kent was on a 1’27.057 lap.

But it was bad news for Miguel Oliveira who has broken his hand and will return to Portugal today for surgery. The Red Bull KTM rider has won two races this year but got caught out at turn one and got spat over the highside.

Enea Bastianini occupies third spot but is 0.886s down on title rival Kent with Efren Vasquez fourth. Valentino Rossi’s protege Romano Fenati also crashed at turn one but was unhurt. He had a row with marshals about remounting and should receive a dressing down by race direction.

Oban rider John McPhee ended the session down in 23rd place on his Saxoprint RTG Honda with a 1’29.140s lap, just ahead of Darryn Binder.
