MotoGP Jerez: ‘Exciting Rookies race’ leaves O’Gorman fifth

Casey O’Gorman had the fight of his life on Sunday afternoon as the second Red Bull Rookies race saw a 12-rider battle for victory.

With the pack swapping paces constantly and in quick succession, it was Max Quiles who eventually scored the win from Luca Lunetta as the weekend came to a close. José Rueda claimed the final podium position after Collin Veijer was docked a place after the flag.

O’Gorman secured fifth at the line in what he later described as: “probably one of the most exciting races I've ever been in.

“Every corner I was either overtaking or being overtaken,” the 14-year-old Irishman continued. “We were five wide into turn six, I've got tyre rubber all up my leathers, I made contact with people about five times in that race.

“In the second to last corner in the last lap, my helmet touched Rueda's exhaust, it was so close. Yesterday's race I struggled so much out of corners, for today we went shorter on the gear so that I could get out better and it was very good.”
