MotoGP Jerez: Marquez suffers arm fracture in crash

Reigning MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez put on an astonishing riding display at Jerez this afternoon but it ended with a massive crash and a fracture of his right humerus.

The Repsol Honda man had recovered from a whopping front-end slide on lap five which saw him in the gravel and back on track in 16th place.

He then chased through the pack to get on the back on Maverick Vinales in second but asked too much of his rear Michelin and was spat over the highside.

Checks at the circuit medical centre revealed a fractured right upper arm with a small displacement. Marquez will remain at Jerez overnight before transferring to Barcelona for surgery under Dr Mir.

Marquez’ participation in next weekend’s second Jerez MotoGP is seriously in doubt and two non-finishes in two weeks puts the 2020 world title in doubt.
