Red Bull KTM Factory MotoGP rider Pol Espargaro admitted that a simple misreading of his pit-board cost him in his race-long fight with Jorge Lorenzo at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez.
After battling against the Repsol Honda man, Espargaro had gotten ahead of Lorenzo and going over the line to complete the penultimate lap, the KTM man was ahead.
However, after misreading his pit board, Espargaro backed out of it, thinking the race was over. After realising what he had done, he got back on it, however, the damage was done and Lorenzo took twelfth place.
“I misread my pit board one lap before the end of the race, so Lorenzo overtook me again,” said the 27-year-old.
“This was the biggest mistake in my career. I was so focussed and on the limit that I was not thinking about anything else.
“I lost two and a half seconds, I would say that I had a problem with the bike if I was another rider but no, this was my mistake.”
