MotoGP Jerez: Navarro takes first Moto2 pole

Speed Up’s hometown rider Jorge Navarro claimed his maiden Moto2 pole position from Alex Marquez and Augusto Fernandez under the Spanish sun in Jerez.

Looking confident and happy after his first Moto2 podium last time out, Navarro hooked up his Speed Up around his home circuit and worked down to his fastest time of the session, a 1:41.182, which was enough to take the pole from Marquez by 0.091 seconds.

Marquez will be happy to be starting from the middle of the front row and will be hoping to capitalise on his strong starting position, and win his first race since Japan 2017.

Fernandez rounds out an all-Spanish front row. The Pons rider, still recovering from the nasty injuries sustained in Argentina, fought through the pain to claim his first Moto2 front row start.

Remy Gardener looked disappointed to miss out on the front row, however the Australian will start from fourth place, with his time less than four thousands behind Fernandez. Nico Bulega will start from fifth on his Sky Racing VR46 machine with fellow VR46 academy student and World Championship challenger Lorenzo Baldassarri rounding out the second row.

Fabio Di Giannantonio will start from seventh on his Speed Up machine, with Texas winner Tom Luthi and Tetsuta Nagashima in eighth and ninth respectively.

Brad Binder heads a high quality forth row, with the 2017 Moto3 World Champion joined by Sam Lowes and Xavi Vierge on row four.
