MotoGP Le Mans: Navarro secures back-to-back poles

SpeedUp Moto2 rider Jorge Navarro secured his second pole position in as many races, despite having to go through Q1 and crashing out of Q2 in the tricky wet conditions at Le Mans.

With rain falling throughout the session, the Spaniard made it through from Q1 along with Tom Luthi, Jake Dixon and Lukas Tulovic and all four of the Q1 men used the conditions to their advantage with both Navarro and Luthi going quicker every lap.

Tom Luthi went fastest with a 1:49.133 but lost the front end of his Dynavolt bike at turn two just five seconds later. Navarro continued his momentum and went 0.078 seconds under Luthi’s best time, although the Spaniard then fired himself over his handlebars at Garage Vert. Fortunately both riders walked away from their respective crashes unharmed.

Alex Marquez will round out the front row and was the fastest of the riders who went directly into Q2 from the combined free practice times.

Mattia Pasini will start from fourth position, with the veteran Italian another crasher at Garage Vert. The Italian will be joined on the second row by Xavi Vierge and Andrea Locatelli.

Moto2 World Championship leader Lorenzo Baldassarri will head the third row after a late save will be thankful he didn’t end up in the gravel. Brad Binder will start from eighth with Tulovic rounding out the third row in ninth position.

Marcel Schrotter fought through the pain for tenth position, whilst Jake Dixon was disappointed with eleventh, despite a career best position. Remy Gardener was twelfth and finished out the top four rows.
