MotoGP Misano #2: 'If you're not 100 per cent fit, you are just a passenger' – Marquez

Repsol Honda’s Alex Marquez believes the RC213V is such a demanding bike to ride that if you are not 100 per cent fit for a MotoGP weekend, you’re just a passenger.

Currently, Marquez’ eight-time world champion brother is on the sick list, Cal Crutchlow has missed both Misano races and test rider Stefan Bradl is not playing any more this weekend as his ‘numb’ elbow is a lot worse than an original diagnosis first indicated.

“I think through all the years Honda is a bike that is demanding a lot of the rider, that you need to be really fit,” said Marquez.

“We saw it last year with Lorenzo. You need to be 100 per cent fit. If you’re not, you are like just a passenger on the bike. You need to force the bike.

“To change this, I don’t know. I’m not an engineer to say where we can change.

“It’s true that for example that it’s unbelievable to see Maverick on the Yamaha with a heart rate of 120bpm. I’m already at 120bpm when I’m walking.

“So, it’s impressive to see him on the bike at 300km/h and see him at 120bpm. It’s impressive. But it’s a different type of bike.

“I’m feeling well on the bike. It’s true that it’s demanding, but if you are fit it’s not a problem.”
