MotoGP Misano: Di Giannantonio claims first Moto2 pole

Speed Up Moto2 rider Fabio Di Giannantonio claimed his first World Championship pole position, after securing the pole position from World Championship leader Alex Marquez in Misano.

The Italian had been strong in free practice, however it was the World Championship leader that was the provisional pole man and looked to be set, with nobody improving as the MotoGP tyre grip wore down.

However, Di Gianntanio looked like the one man who had the tyres working for him. Three red sectors on his prior lap, which was aborted, only to then complete a flying lap, putting him on the pole position from Marquez by 0.137 seconds.

Marquez will be happy with second place, with Augusto Fernandez rounding out the front row, just 0.027 seconds behind the Marc VDS man.

Remy Gardener will start from fourth place and the head of the second row, with SAG team-mate Tetsuta Nagashima next to the Aussie in fifth place. Xavi Vierge rounds out the second row in sixth place.

Tom Luthi will have to shake off a crash to start from seventh, just ahead of Sam Lowes and rookie Marco Bezzecchi who has looked impressive all weekend.
