MotoGP Misano: Quartararo tops red hot FP3

Petronas SRT Yamaha MotoGP rookie sensation Fabio Quartararo topped a red hot FP3 with a 1:32.081, over three tenths clear from the rest of the field in Misano.

It was Quartararo’s Yamaha stablemate Maverick Vinales who sat on top overnight, and the Spaniard was the first man to go under his FP2 time late on in the session. On another hot lap, Vinales went even quicker, however, the Frenchman was even faster ten seconds ahead, posting the fastest time of the weekend.

Behind the front two was the surprise package of Pol Espargaro. The KTM man sat behind Vinales on his hot lap and managed to follow the factory Yamaha around closely enough to finish just 0.209 seconds behind his compatriot in third place.

Marc Marquez was fourth as the World Champion had to work hard, however you always feel like he has more up his sleeve than shown through free practice. Franco Morbidelli was fifth on his M1, less than a tenth ahead of Taka Nakagami, who was sixth.

Valentino Rossi safely secured his passage into Q2 after finishing in seventh, making it once again four Yamaha’s in the top seven, with Silverstone winner Alex Rins hooking up his final lap to jump up to eighth place. Ducati wild card Michele Pirro was ninth, just ahead of the battered and bruised Andrea Dovizioso who will be happy to avoid Q1 as he continues to recover from his monster crash at Silverstone, two weeks ago.

The KTM duo of Johann Zarco and Miguel Olivera just missed out, finishing in eleventh and twelfth respectively, whilst Cal Crutchlow was thirteenth.
