MotoGP Mugello: 'Lack of feel' halts Vinales once again

Maverick Vinales said that a lack front-end feeling in the early stages prevented him fighting for a podium in today's Mugello MotoGP.

After navigating through Q1 yesterday afternoon, the Spaniard found himself on the outside of the front row. Despite the strong qualifying performance, Vinales suffered badly on the opening lap and found himself crossing the line in eleventh place after the first lap on his factory M1.

Vinales said that the race wasn’t how he was expecting it to go after a strong performance in race simulation during FP4.

“The race wasn‘t as I expected it would be after FP4,” said the 23-year-old.

“In the warm up I got a different feeling from the bike than during the race. I lost the front almost in every corner in the first laps.”

After fighting with a lack of feeling, Vinales said that in spite of a late resurgence, his front tyre was wrecked which ultimately cost him a spot on the podium.

“That was a shame, because after that I was one of the faster riders on the track after lap 10,” he said.

“Finally, I destroyed the front tyre and I couldn‘t be on the podium, but I tried my best, like always.”
