MotoGP Mugello: In Ducati they don’t tell us the benefit of the part – Petrucci

Factory Ducati MotoGP rider Danilo Petrucci revealed that in Ducati he is not told the benefits of any new parts as riders would get fixed on them, after debuting new parts during a qualifying session in which he qualified on the outside of the front row in Mugello.

The Italian rolled out rear tyre covers on his GP19 and when asked what the benefit of those is, Petrucci joked: “We only put on because the bike is more aggressive with the part, better looking.”

Before explaining, “In Ducati they don’t tell us the benefit of the part. If you know for example the part is better on turning, you always notice the turning and you don’t notice anything else. This means your opinion is then effected, but there’s not so much different but I can’t say what this is for.”

Petrucci was unfortunate to come up against an extremely fast Marc Marquez and Fabio Quartararo in Mugello. After breaking the outright circuit record in the morning free practice three session, he saw that get smashed later on in the afternoon by both riders, leaving him down in third after qualifying.

“It’s the second time in FP3 and the second time in qualifying that they took me off, always Fabio then Marc, but anyway,” he said with a smile.

“There’s always a lot of expectation here for Ducati riders. Yesterday was quite difficult but today we found a good bike, and I’m happy, as it was the target to be on the first row. I thought in my mind that [1 minute] 45.8 was the target to reach the pole position.

“We have for sure to manage, especially at the beginning. We still don’t know the tyre, seems that every tyre can do the race. Will be important also the warm up tomorrow.”
