MotoGP Mugello: ‘Pace feels good, excited for qualifying’ - McPhee

Sterilgarda Husqvarna’s John McPhee completed his second Friday back from injury third in the combined Moto3 times at Mugello.

Having set an impressive 1’57.283 lap towards the end of the morning action, placing him second in the session, McPhee maintained his leading position across the afternoon. Only KTM’s Jaume Masia challenged the Scot in the afternoon with Dennis Foggia commanding the times overall.

“Really nice to be back riding this amazing track,” McPhee said after FP2. “I enjoyed my first day here finishing third in combined times.

“My pace feels good and my body condition is a little better than Le Mans although still some restricted movement on the bike.

“Really excited for QP tomorrow and to keep working towards the race. I send my best wishes to Ayumu and hope to have him back as soon as possible.”

It was a rollercoaster day for the Max Racing squad with team boss Max Biaggi presented with his hall of fame MotoGP Legends award followed by a nasty highside collision for second rider Ayumu Sasaki in FP2. While no serious damage was diagnosed at the circuit medical centre, Sasaki was taken to hospital for precautionary CT scans following severe neck pain.
