MotoGP Qatar: Lowes withdrawal 'difficult but smartest option'

Sam Lowes withdrew from Moto2 action before the start of free practice three in Qatar this morning and although disappointed, the EG0,0 rider admitted it was the smart thing to do.

Lowes is still recovering from a shoulder injury he picked up in a 15mph crash at Jerez a couple of weeks ago and although the Isle of Man resident finished only 1.1s off the pace yesterday, his team decided discretion was the better part of valour.

“This morning we met with the doctors and the team and, following their advice, we opted to end to my participation in the Grand Prix," said Lowes.

"It was a very difficult decision to take because my head told me one thing and my heart another. Anyway, and as much as it hurts me, I think we went for the smartest option because, although I felt quite well yesterday, I am not 100 per cent and any incident on the track could have serious physical consequences.

"At this point, it is not worth taking unnecessary risks. I will work hard to recover the shape of the whole and be at the maximum in the next race."
