MotoGP Sepang: Dalla Porta secures flyaway hat-trick

Moto3 World Champion Lorenzo Dalla Porta secured his third consecutive victory in as many weeks with another faultless display in the Malaysian heat at the Sepang International Circuit.

Starting from the third row, Dalla Porta got away with the lead group and found himself gaining places with riders in front of him falling off, including, Tatsuki Suzuki, Alonso Lopez and Gabi Rodridgo.

With a little over half race distance completed, the World Champion found himself at the head of the field and looking supremely confident out front, retaliating on any attempted pass by Albert Arenas or Celestino Vietti in the final laps, to hold on for his third win in a row, making him the first Italian to win three lightweight races in a row in over 20 years.

Dalla Porta was joined on the podium by Sergio Garcia, with the Estrella Galicia 0,0 teenager claiming his first World Championship podium and Jaume Masia, who was forced to start from the back of the field after an issue with his KTM on the sighting lap.

Ai Ogura was fourth, with Vietti having to settle for fifth place after leading early on the final lap. Pole sitter Marcos Ramirez was sixth, ahead of John McPhee, Aron Canet, Tony Arbolino and Nico Antonelli who rounded out the top ten.

Romano Fenati was eleventh with Arenas coming home in twelfth place after crashing on the final corner of the race. Filip Salac was thirteenth with Raul Fernandez and Ricardo Rossi completing the point scorers.
