MotoGP Sepang: Faultless Vinales produces dominant victory

Monster Energy factory Yamaha rider Maverick Vinales produced a faultless display to secure his second victory 2019 from Marc Marquez at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.

The Spaniard starting from the middle of the front row enjoyed a good start and after showing patience in the opening corners, Vinales moved under the quick starting Jack Miller and was never seen again. The Spaniard did what he couldn’t do last weekend in Australia and pushed, creating a gap to the chasing field which from lap three was remarkable headed by Marquez.

From the midway point onwards, Vinales had the better part of a second and a half in his pocket and it was about tyre management and conservation, something the Yamaha man managed comfortably, holding on to secure only his second win of the season.

Marquez continued his remarkable run of top two finishes after a stunning set of early laps saw him go through a lonely race, with the two Spaniards being joined on the podium by Andrea Dovizioso, after the Ducati man managed to hold off the intense pressure of both Valentino Rossi (fourth) and Alex Rins (fifth) for the final podium spot.

Franco Morbidelli was sixth, just ahead of his SRT Petronas Yamaha team-mate Fabio Quartararo, with the Malaysian team suffering a disappointing day at their home Grand Prix. Miller ended in eighth place, ahead of Danilo Petrucci and Joan Mir, with the Spaniard tenth, despite wiping out Johann Zarco in the closing stages of the race.
