MotoGP Sepang: Moto2 king Marquez 'living a dream'

Alex Marquez was yesterday crowned world champion for a second time, adding the Moto2 title to the Moto3 crown he won in 2014.

The Spaniard finished yesterday’s race at Sepang in second place which was enough to wrap up the 2019 crown for the Estrella Galicia 00 team, and he says he is ‘living a dream’.

“This title feels great and gives me a lot of happiness. It’s been a really complete season and we’ve always been there, at all kinds of circuits and conditions,” said Marquez.

“We managed to get rid of the bad times and got the most out of the good ones. We’ve been the most complete package on the grid and thanks to that we’re World Champions.

“When I crossed the finish line today many thoughts came to mind, especially all those people who have helped me. This year I’ve felt really happy and this translated to my performances on the bike.

The team has given me the confidence and support that I needed. It’s this confidence and support I’ve felt all year that will stay with me when I remember 2019. I’m living a dream and I can only say thanks to all the members of the team, to my family, friends and sponsors who have helped and supported me.

“I have to say a special thank you to Marc Van Der Straten for the love and trust he’s shown me during these five years.”

Marquez will remain in the class and in the same team for 2020 where he will be joined by Britain’s Sam Lowes.
