Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso may have wrapped up second in the 2019 MotoGP title chase but he is not over-chuffed about it, saying that finishing 15s behind the leader at Phillip Island is nothing to shout about.
The Italian points to the combined standings, which state that Marc Marquez alone has scored only one less point than both Dovizioso and team-mate Danilo Petrucci added together, so there is not a lot to be happy about.
“We confirmed our ups and downs of this season. We are not fast like last year. We took 15 seconds so that is bad,” said Dovizioso.
“I finished seventh but just with one second faster I could finish third. It’s not the point. We can’t be happy about that. This is the reality in this moment.
“In the end with all the ups and downs of this season, we finish second and we confirm this two races before the end. This is the positive thing.
“But we are not that competitive and I’m not that happy. Marquez alone is one point away from me and Danilo in the teams’ standings.”
