MotoGP Silverstone: Ogden battles back for points

VisionTrack’s Scott Ogden had a rollercoaster Moto3 weekend at his home Grand Prix before leaving Silverstone satisfied with points.

The British rookie was confident of his first lightweight world championship performance in front of the local crowd but struggled more than expected in the opening sessions. Frustrations boiled over on Saturday after a disappointing qualifying performance which left him down in 24th and missing the all-important Q2 fight.

With the team and rider regrouping in the race, however, Sunday was another story. Quickly into the top 20 as the 17-lap contest unfolded, Ogden completed the dramatic race in 12th position to claim another four championship points.

“Overall, the weekend was a positive step in the right direction,” Ogden reflected on Sunday. "I struggled a bit in FP3 and qualifying due to a bit of miscommunication, but the race was really fun at the end of the day.

“I came back from 24th to 12th which, for me, is quite odd because normally, I’m not very good in battles and I lose a lot of places so I’m really happy to make a comeback.

"I think if we’d started there then I’d have been fifth/sixth but it’s nice because I know now that I have the speed, I was two seconds closer to the win so it’s a big step in the right direction and sets us up nicely after a few DNFs.”
