Maverick Viñales is riding a wave at Aprilia after a strong performance before the MotoGP summer break and arrives at Silverstone full of motivation.

The momentum is on the Spaniard's side, especially at a track he’s enjoyed past success and one he openly enjoys.

“The good thing is, Silverstone, that less or more all sectors are very similar,” Viñales explained of his preparation on Thursday. “It is true that we have fast sector in sector one, but at the end is changing direction. So less or more the track is very similar, even if it's long, so the setup should work. I mean, we have a setup from Assen, kind of a track with fast changing direction, some brakes, so should work well."

With four podiums to his name at the British track, including one victory, Viñales has a symmetry with Silverstone that is hard to challenge and with almost a year on the RS-GP, the 27-year-old is full of confidence for the weekend ahead but does he believe this is his ‘perfect chance’ to return to winning ways?

“The perfect place? It has to be every track,” the Aprilia rider said assuredly. “For me, I mean, I have the mentality that every track it has to be fantastic for us. But it's true that with Silverstone I have a special feeling. Especially I've been very successful here in the past. But now it's time to put us in the present so we'll see how we are but I feel very motivated.

“I feel we can start the second part of the season very strong and one objective until the end of the season is trying to win a race.

“So let's start from zero and we will focus on the next part but I feel calm and I feel I can do the job so let's go for it.”

One topic of conversation that remains in circulation is that question of team orders, with teammate Aleix Espargaro in the, somewhat unexpected, position of fighting for the MotoGP title. Viñales remains open and matter-of-fact about the situation.

“It is something we have to speak,” he confirmed. “I mean, it is clear that there is my teammate that is fighting for the championship. I'm still a long way on the back and it's something for sure we will speak because it can have this scenario where maybe I can be P1 and Aleix P2 or Aleix P1 and I will be P2. So we will need to talk about it and make everything sure but of course, I said in Assen, I want Aprilia to win. I want this great factory to achieve the goal and it's all a benefit of every person involved in that big project of Aprilia.

“We don't have to win to understand team orders,” he continued on his lack of top-step success at the Noale factory so far. “One of the, I think the strongest point from our team is that both sides of the team work well together and we will understand very well. When we have to do the job for the team we will do, when we will need to run few runs with Aleix, we will. It is good that I'm in the front because I can be showing my potential and I feel like I can do it but also it's good for Aleix because I can be there battling.

“I don't have anything new,” he said turning his attention to the track action ahead this weekend. “We think our package is enough right now and it's a matter of keeping pushing to the limit.

“I felt really good in Assen. I needed that last five laps to keep pushing, but I make few mistakes and then I was looking more to Jack to close all the doors. But was great to feel it in Assen and then now we are at Silverstone, Austria, Misano, where normally I'm super strong. We are motivated. When you are motivated you don't look back, only look forward!

Still I need to learn more things but during this month that we stop, I think and I overthink what I did different in the last two races and especially the first laps. I've been in the front in the first lap so I've been in the front for all the race. It’s something we must accomplish if we want to fight for races and in the future we want to fight for the title, is to start in the front.

“One thing for me it was very important is that even if I was P11 on the qualifying, I make myself really quick and strong. This is something important and something in the summer I work a lot with another type of bikes to be even more strong.”
