MotoGP technology freeze until 2022 on cards

Discussions to freeze all MotoGP technology until the end of the 2021 season were due to take place yesterday between all the series' manufacturers.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Motorcycle Sport Manufacturers Association want to find ways of saving money as they currently have no sponsorship cash coming in.

Series bosses Dorna have already forked out an aid package for the MotoGP independent teams and those in Moto2 and Moto3 but the works teams will have to fend for themselves.

A proposal to freeze all current technology until the end of the 2021 season is thought to be the biggest measure to be discussed as that will remove a big chunk of cost from the bottom line at each manufacturer.

It is thought the concession teams, Aprilia and KTM, may be allowed to carry out some development work should they deem it financially acceptable.
