MotoGP Valencia: McPhee signs off from Moto3, ‘looks forward to next chapter’

John McPhee signed off from his Moto3 career with an eleventh place finish at Valencia on Sunday.

Fresh off the back of his fairytale victory at Malaysia’s penultimate weekend, which saw the Scotsman recover from 22nd on the grid to the top step of the podium, McPhee completed the year battling in the second group.

Launching from tenth, the 28-year-old dropped to the back of the points positions in the opening laps, before regrouping to the fringes of the top ten. Running 12th for the majority of the mid-race, McPhee had another brief setback before advancing for five points in the closing laps.

“It was an emotional race for me, my last race in Moto3,” McPhee confirmed from Valencia. “It was nice to be consistent and strong throughout all the weekend.

"I felt competitive. I had a good run of results, from Phillip Island to the win at Sepang and this was the best way to end my Moto3 career.

“Here we have been in the top ten all the weekend! A big thank you to the team, to everyone who supported me, everyone that stood by me even in the difficult moments. I always pushed 100 per cent and tried to finish the season in the best way, so thank you to everyone.

“I look forward to the next chapter. All I can say is thank you. I am very grateful for all.”
