MotoGP Valencia: McPhee’s Petronas partnership ends in 11th

John McPhee parts ways with Petronas Sprinta Racing after three seasons, signing off their final Moto3 race in Valencia from 11th.

A challenging weekend at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo left McPhee 15th on the grid, with the Scot running 17th after the first corner melee. Having spent the opening laps battling for position he tagged onto the second group, and with Antonelli pushing hard further ahead, two groups became one in the closing stages providing an easier path for progression.

In the points as the flag prepared, McPhee ultimately crossed the line 13th, however, two after the flag penalties - for Romano Fenati and Dennis Foggia - promoted him to 11th for his final race with the disbanding SRT squad.

“It’s been an incredible three years with the team,” McPhee said as the dust settled on the finale. “We have had lots of great moments that we’ve enjoyed together, along with some tough ones. We’ll look back at the positives: we’ve had eight podiums, won a couple of races, had pole positions and been on front rows. Overall we’ve enjoyed success together.

“The past season has been the toughest, but we’ve still enjoyed some great moments, with the podium in Texas, and we’ve been fast in every race. It’s been a pleasure, I appreciate all the hard work from the guys and I wish them all the best in the future. Thanks again!”
