It’s not just in the MXGP class where Red Bull KTM riders sit first and second – the MX2 division is also boiling down into a two-man fight with Spanish teenager Jorge Prado and defending champion Pauls Jonass going toe-to-toe for the title.

The team-mates finished all-square on points at the MXGP of Germany and between them have won seven of the eight overalls contested so far with Jonass leading by 22 points.

Prado’s two-one scorecard at Teutschenthal gave him victory on a tie-break.

“The first moto I got the holeshot but decided to go to the inside ruts on the second corner and they were deep and muddy,” he said. “Pauls went outside and passed me and from that moment I was behind him the whole moto and trying to make the pass.

“I just couldn't find one spot and was thinking every lap ‘where can I do this?’ but it became too late. It was tough and I knew the next start would be so important.

“I touched something with my front wheel in the second moto and came across into Pauls a little bit out of the gate. We kinda fought down to the first corner and I had the inside. I could lead every lap. So I’m happy. The points gap is not so big and we are still improving.”

Jonass didn’t appear too bothered to lose out on the overall and shrugged off the defeat.

“I’m feeling good,” he said. “Didn't lose anything, didn't gain anything. I wanted the top step of the podium but I always tend to struggle a little bit on this track.

“That first moto was tough because Jorge was always pushing and then in the second moto he pulled a little gap and I just couldn't close it. He was riding really well this weekend. We’ll go back home and work on a few things and I know what we need to do.”
