Oulton BSB: Brookes 'not having to try too hard' for laptimes

Laptimes for Be Wiser Ducati’s Josh Brookes are coming quite easily at the Oulton Park Bennetts British Superbike Showdown finale and the Australian former champion opened a half-second gap over the chasing pack.

Brookes, who won both races at the Cheshire track earlier in the year, was well under his own lap record in the second session and, crucially, almost a second faster than closest title rival Scott Redding.

“I think that having good speed here at the start of the year has made a big difference to the start of today,” said Brookes.

” However we did start out with the settings from Cadwell Park, but to be fair they are not really a lot different to what we ran at this circuit at the previous round.

“The bike is in a nice place I think in general from Cadwell Park to now and previous rounds. Things have been refined and good and I already had a good mental space because of winning here earlier in the year.

“I got on the track, the bike felt like it should, the track felt familiar from earlier in the year and a familiar feeling with the setting. It all came really natural today; I didn’t have to think too much, or try too hard or do anything to do the laps.”
