Brad Jones finally ended team-mate Rory Skinner’s domination of this year’s Quattro Group British Supersport Championship when he took the ‘Sprint’ race at Oulton Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Tysers Yamaha duo broke away from fellow Yamaha riders Lee Johnston, Jamie Perrin and Harry Truelove in the closing stages and Jones, having re-taken the lead at Lodge Corner on the penultimate lap, held on to win by 0.055s.
The leading four riders had spent much of the 12 laps separated by less than half a second with Truelove joining them in the closing stages after a series of rapid laps on the Truelove Brothers Yamaha.
Skinner and Jones made the break with two laps to go, Championship leader Skinner having spent much of the race in the lead with Jones nosing ahead on occasions and as they did that, Truelove moved up into third, a position he held until the end.
Johnston (Ashcourt Racing Yamaha) and Perrin (JP Racing Yamaha) took fourth and fifth with slow starting James Westmoreland (Gearlink Kawasaki) coming through to sixth ahead of Mason Law (Spirit Moto Corsa) who was the leading GP2 Cup rider in seventh overall.
Bradley Perie (Diamond H Racing Yamaha), Jack Scott (JJ Racing Harris) and Tom Oliver (Nova Go Racing Chassis Factory) completed the top ten, the last two names finishing second and third in the GP2 Cup category.
