Oulton BSB: Linfoot turns attentions to Riders Cup trophy

Santander TAG's Dan Linfoot has turned his attentions to winning the 2019 Bennetts British Superbike Riders Cup trophy as his chances of achieving a Showdown spot have vanished after a couple of tough rounds.

Linfoot is 71 points behind current seventh-placed man Peter Hickman but has three races at Oulton Park's Showdown decider this weekend to make a decent dent in the deficit.

“I am really looking forward to this weekend, the triple header is always good fun because we have lots more track time and a busier weekend so that is great," said Linfoot.

"This time of the year the weather is always a little mixed, so that could throw something different into the equation also.

We have three chances to have some strong races this weekend and my mentality is much like it has been all year, we need consistent top six finishes.

"The last few rounds haven’t gone our way on the race day, and that is something is I want to turn around this weekend.

“Realistically, a much better target is to set my sights now on a Riders Cup challenge. It is still mathematically possible to get into the Showdown, but I have to win all three races, and the rest of the people in front of me in the Championship have to crash out or not finish, and  it is unlikely that is going to happen.

“So realistically the most we can do finish seventh overall, and that is now our target. We need to start that challenge this weekend and three top six finishes will help towards that and bring us closer to the front.”
