Oulton BSB: Skinner put one hand on the Supersport trophy

Rory Skinner got back to winning ways in the second Quattro British Supersport Championship race at Oulton Park on Sunday but the Tysers Yamaha rider was made to work all the way by team-mate and first race winner Brad Jones.

The duo were some 14s clear of third place at the chequered flag but it was Skinner who got the verdict by three tenths of a second to take his seventh win of the season with Bradley Perie (Diamond H Racing Yamaha) coming through for third.

It was Jones who headed the field into Old Hall for the first time only for Harry Truelove (Truelove Brothers Racing) to slip up the inside at Shell Oils but last year’s Championship runner up got the lead back at Druids with Skinner following him past Truelove at Lodge.

The Championship leader took over at the front on lap two with the two team-mates edging away from new third place man James Westmoreland (Gearlink Kawasaki) who was enjoying a much better race this time around. Meanwhile, Lee Johnston (Ashcourt Racing Yamaha) moved up to fourth on the third lap, overhauling Truelove at Lodge.

Skinner and Jones were setting a tremendous pace and after just six laps they were already over four seconds clear of Westmoreland who was coming under extreme pressure from Johnston, Truelove and the leading GP2 Cup runner Jack Scott (JJ Racing Harris).

Indeed, Johnston moved ahead on the seventh lap but the battle for third was now a freight train of nine riders as the leading two of Skinner and Jones continued to pull away.

It was Skinner who continually led over the line but Jones was always on his back wheel as Westmoreland re-took third at two-thirds race distance with the last part of the race all set up to be a thrilling finale.

Skinner and Jones were locked in battle all the way to the end but it was the Scot who prevailed whilst Perie put in a some storming laps at the end to fight his way up to third and the final podium spot.

Truelove, Westmoreland and Johnston followed him over the line in quick succession with four GP2 Cup riders right with them, Charlie Nesbitt (ABM Quattro) taking the honours from Scott, Mason Law (Spirit Moto Corsa) and Nesbitt’s team-mate Alastair Seeley.
