Oulton BSB: Test provides Irwin with setup direction

Honda’s Andrew Irwin has admitted last week’s Oulton Park Bennetts British Superbike test didn’t go as well as he had hoped but he found a setup direction in which to head at this weekend’s Cheshire clash.

Irwin, who is fresh to a four-cylinder Superbike after spending the second half of last year on a Panigale V-twin, took a fourth at Oulton in 2018 and will look to emulate that this weekend.

“After the first round I feel positive with where we are, I think we can only get stronger as the season goes on and as I get more used to the Fireblade,” said Irwin.

Testing last week wasn’t the best if I’m honest, but what’s important is that we now know what direction we need to go in for this weekend.

“We’re coming to Oulton Park from Silverstone and the tracks are so different with the layout, the bike set-up and also how you ride.

“Oulton is a great track and somewhere I really enjoy riding, I’ve done well there in the past on the 600s and finished fourth last year and was looking strong for the podium, so I know heading into the weekend I can be competitive.”
