Petronas Yamaha MotoGP boss Razlan Razali is prepared to consider Valentino Rossi for the 2022 season should be prove to be competitive next year.
Although The Doctor’s transition into the satellite team isn’t a publicly-done deal it is believed the contract has at least changed hands and should Rossi be a podium botherer in 2021, Razali would have him back alongside Franco Morbidelli.
“We don’t want our team to be somewhere Valentino ends his career, we want to be competitive and fight for the podium,” said Razali
“If he can still be competitive, anything can happen, even continuing into another year. The priority is Franco Morbidelli for 2021, regardless of Valentino.”
Razali dismissed rumours of a Rossi/Lorenzo dream team saying the circumstances of 2020 make it too difficult to bring the Mallorcan in.
It is expected that Rossi’s deal will be announced shortly.
