Turkish star Toprak Razgatlioglu has taken a shock victory in the BSN WorldSBK Rider of the Year poll and doing it in some style, taking a fraction more than half of the votes.
The youngster, who has moved to the works Yamaha team for 2020, took his first championship wins this season and was able, on occasion, to give five-time champion Jonathan Rea a thin time.
In pre-season testing, Razgatlioglu has adapted to the R1 very quickly and looks likely to be a forced to be reckoned with for the next few years at least.
He took 50.13 per cent of the vote to bag top spot with champion Rea in second place with 34.25 per cent. Alvaro Bautista took third place with 5.7 per cent. Alex Lowes was fourth on 5.14 per cent while Tom Sykes took fifth on 1.37 per cent.
