Ride-through penalty 'too much' for jump-starts, says Mir

Ecstar Suzuki new-boy Joan Mir believes the ride-through penalty did not fit his jump-start crime during the Austin MotoGP.

Mir, along with Monster Yamaha's Maverick Vinales, moved forward slightly before the lights went out which is an immediate ride-through which puts paid to any kinds of decent points haul.

The Spaniard believes it is just too much and the newly-introduced long-lap system should be used instead - which Vinales mistakenly went around before coming down pitlane on Sunday.

"I think I didn’t gain any time in the movement. I’m not able to see it on TV, it’s something really small. I think in these cases the penalty is too much. It ruined my race," said Mir.

I think the solution could be the long lap in these cases. But I don’t see clear."

Mir clawed his way back to 17th while Vinales managed to get 11th place but Mir is regretting what could have been.

Anyway, we had a great pace all the race, this is a shame. Every time I see the pace we have compared to the others, it makes me angrier. But OK, it is what it is.

"We have to see what would be the solution in this case, but again it was a shame."
