Royal Enfield parent company set for $2bn Ducati bid

Indian firm Eicher, the parent company of Royal Enfield, is set to make a binding bid of $2 billion for Ducati.

Current owners Volkswagen are looking to offload the Bologna-based business in an effort to regroup losses from the diesel emmissions scandal which rocked the whole automotive industry.

Ducati was put up for sale in April with Suzuki, Harley-Davidson and Baja all said to have shown an interest. The sale has faced resistance from German automotive trade unions and a final decision on whether to sell will be made at a supervisory board meeting on September 29.
