Sepang MotoGP test: Ducati 'struggling' for pace

Works Ducati MotoGP star Danilo Petrucci admitted the GP20 struggled against the opposition at Sepang’s test in both outright lap times and pace over a long run.

Petrucci, who set the track’s outright bike lap record this time last year, was six-tenths off Fabio Quartararo’s test-leading time but more tellingly only did seven 1’59s in a run where some others can do ten or more.

“For sure, in the laptime, I am not so fast. I am not too far from the lead but one year ago I remember we were four Ducatis, I did the record lap - but it’s not the thing that we are looking for,” said Petrucci, speaking at the track.

“I think for example Maverick and Marc do completely another type of work, and I think they are the two fast riders, also Espargaro is very fast, Rins, [Fabio] Quartararo.

“There are a lot of riders able to ride more than 10 laps in 59s. And we’re struggling to keep this pace.”

“Still some work to do, and for sure there are many many riders faster, and I’m not happy about it, but at least we understand many things, and this is good.”
