Silverstone boss re-iterates MotoGP commitment

Silverstone circuit boss Stuart Pringle has re-iterated his commitment to hosting MotoGP over the next three years, saying he spent the first spare cash the track has had in years resurfacing it to bring it up to standard.

Both the FIM and Dorna had requested parts of the track be sorted out due to the bumps that had appeared over past seasons but Pringle said he decided to go one better and do the lot in time for the British round at the end of August.

“We have been in quite a tricky place for the last few years but you can take the fact that we have prioritised the first bit of spare cash in many a year to invest a multi-million pound sum into a new surface,” said Pringle, speaking at the track.

“This is a real sign of commitment and putting our money where our mouth is. I promised the riders, I promised the FIM and I promises Dorna that would re-surface a good chunk of the circuit and we have vastly exceeded those promises, doing the whole 3.666 miles at 15-metres width.

“We used the best asphalt team in the business to give something that is truly world class. One of the reasons we wanted to do that is we still suffer a little bit from the stigma we are an F1 circuit and we don’t have any interest in motorcycles. That is not the case.”

The bumps, which F1 drivers had caused but not complained about, have now been eliminated but Pringle’s team, working alongside the likes of Cal Crutchlow, haven’t ironed out the natural undulations so it still has an ebb and flow.
