Silverstone BSB: Stapleford grabs fifth despite problems

Buildbase Suzuki new-boy Luke Stapleford bagged seventh and fifth-place finishes in his first Bennetts British Superbike race weekend with team despite suffering the same edge-edge grip issues as team-mate Bradley Ray.

Stapleford, who came back to the UK from WorldSSP this year, put in a steady weekend and used the racecraft that bagged him the British Supersport title to climb through the ranks in race two to take a decent points haul.

“Honestly, I’m well happy. We’ve had two strong results and the gap to the front isn’t massive either,” said Stapleford.

“We’ve got one area where we need to improve – across the team – and that’s with our edge grip. We really struggled in the last sector this weekend.

“We changed a few things between sessions to try and find a cure, but that’s where we need to focus and improve. But I think if we can find that piece of the jigsaw then it should put us right in the mix.”
