Silverstone BSB: No room for error as Brookes looks to Showdown

Championship contender Josh Brookes has revealed he has no room for mistakes in the final three rounds of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship.

The McAMS Yamaha rider heads into the Showdown in third position and knows he will need to use everything in his arsenal to capitalise when the pack regroups at Oulton Park in five days’ time.

With Leon Haslam looking strong with a 45 point lead over second-placed Jake Dixon, Brookes says he needs to come out fighting next weekend and is aware that even a small mistake will hamper his chances.

“We have to turn things around, it’s my job,” he said. “I’ve got to go into these next rounds and we need to as a team make no mistakes, have no DNFs and win some races.

“This season has been one of my most challenging, it certainly hasn’t been an easy one. Every position, whether it be a podium or a fifth place, I’ve fought hard for them.”

And for Brookes, who has enjoyed the highs of winning the title coupled with the lows of losing out, it’s now time to take everything he has experienced in the past and put it to good use.

“I know what it takes, I’ve been here before many times,” he added. “I’ve won a championship. I know what’s involved. We’ve just got to put that knowledge into practice.”
