Silverstone BSB: Skinner takes third successive Supersport pole

Rory Skinner claimed his third successive Quattro British Supersport Championship pole position on Saturday with another dominant display at Silverstone.

Despite remaining in his garage for the first few minutes of the session, the Tyser Yamaha rider immediately jumped to the top of the leaderboard with a sub-56 second lap and at one stage he enjoyed an advantage of almost three quarters of a second over his closest challenger.

With consistent laps in the 55s bracket, he eventually claimed the top spot with a time of 55.357s, which put him 0.497s clear of James Westmoreland. The Gearlink Kawasaki rider found himself towards the bottom of the top ten with five minutes of the session to go but a late lap of 55.854s put him on the front row for this afternoon’s Sprint race.

Early pace setter Bradley Perie took third on the Diamond H Racing Yamaha despite going off track just five minutes into the session and it was Lee Johnston who took fourth on his Ashcourt Racing Yamaha.

He too opted to stay in his garage initially but was soon on the pace and he’ll be joined on the second row by Jamie Perrin (JP Racing Yamaha) and Skinner’s team-mate Brad Jones.

He ran in second place in the early stages before being shuffled back and it was Harry Truelove, Ben Currie, Scott Swann and Mason Law who rounded out the top ten.

The last named was the leading GP2 Cup runner just ahead of Jack Scott and Alastair Seeley.
