Silverstone BSB: Skinner wraps up another Supersport win

Rory Skinner made it five wins in a row in the Quattro British Supersport Championship race at Silverstone on Saturday as he overcame a minor technical issue to win by more than three seconds from Lee Johnston and Brad Jones.

The Tyser Yamaha man immediately grabbed the lead from his pole position but on the third lap he dropped back to seventh after running off track at the end of the back straight.

That handed the lead to team-mate Jones who was under extreme pressure from Bradley Perie (Diamond H Racing Yamaha), Jamie Perrin (JP Racing Yamaha) and James Westmoreland (Gearlink Kawasaki).

Perie took over the lead on lap six but it was short-lived as the recovering Skinner had been slowly working his way back through the pack and he hit the front for the second time on the seventh lap.

By half race distance, his lead was almost a second and it was now Johnston in second from Jones and Perrin as Perie dropped back to eighth. Indeed, a lap later he was forced to retire.

With clear track ahead of him, and the problems apparently gone, Skinner pulled away from the pursuing pack and Johnston was doing the same in second, which left Jones and Perrin to squabble over third. And as they did, the two Gearlink Kawasaki’s of Westmoreland and Currie closed back in.

Skinner romped ahead to maintain his 100% winning record with Johnston taking an excellent second ahead of Jones who just got the better of Perrin by 0.041s after the duo exchanged places on more than one occasion on the final lap.

Westmoreland and Currie had to settle for fifth and sixth with Harry Truelove taking seventh and Alastair Seeley eighth, the first of the GP2 Cup riders home. He was more than four seconds clear of ABM Quattro team-mate Charlie Nesbitt with Jack Scott third on the Harris machine.
