Spa 24-Hour: ‘Best circuit in the world’ awaits ADSS 97 Kawasaki

After a successful Le Mans 24 Hour opening event, the UK’s sole entrant for the Endurance World Championship, ADSS 97, is preparing for the unique Spa-Francorchamps Circuit.

The endurance specialists finished 12th in the Superstock class (20th overall) at Le Mans, and have already completed a two-day test at the legendary Belgian circuit on their well prepared Kawasaki ZX-10RR machine.

Chris Platt, James Edwards, Jonathan Railton and reserve Johnny Blackshaw all experienced valuable track time ahead of this weekend’s epic 24 hour marathon at the sinuous 7km / 4.3 mile circuit. Gaining valuable base set-up data and crucially testing new fuel tanks after a fuel starvation problem at Le Mans necessitated pitstops more regularly than necessary.

The circuit is widely hailed as one of the greatest pieces of tarmac in the world with even seasoned EWC factory riders excited by the prospect of tackling corners such as the Eau Rouge-Raidillon rollercoaster for the first time on Superbike level machinery. For ADSS it’s an incredible opportunity to test themselves against the world’s best Endurance teams on such a challenging circuit.

“I have raced once before at Spa in the 6hr,” Platt confirmed ahead of the weekend action. “I loved the track then and with the upgrades for the 24hr race it has to be the best circuit in the world from my perspective. It is so fast and exciting, I can’t wait to get started.”

“After such a positive baptism in EWC at last year’s Bol D’or and our recent outing at the Le Mans 24HR, we can’t wait to take on the iconic Spa circuit,’ Team Manager Craig Watson added. “First night practice is going to be interesting to understand the level of visibility for the riders.

“For this race only we have fitted additional lighting to cope with the unique nature of the circuit and its night time visibility. We tested the mounts on the test and after 10 hours of running no vibration related issues were found but our first real test of the kit’s brightness will come on Thursday evening practice!”
