Suzuki at 2017 Milan show

You might have noticed that we’ve not had much from the good folks at Suzuki for 2018. We didn’t forget to go to the stand in Milan or anything, rather, after their big push for last year, the Gixxer guys didn’t really have anything brand-new to show off.

Their stand wasn’t a total washout though – they had the new version of the SV650 on show. The SV650X is a bit of a ‘scrambler-style’ makeover for the firm’s excellent-if-venerable V-twin roadster, and it has a definite charm. Added to the low-price and spunky performance of the 2017 SV, the little X will be a solid wee hit on the streets we’d bet.

Away from gussied-up SVs, there were a couple of tasty concepts on the stand. First was this very impressive Katana reboot, which seemed to be based on the GSX-S1000 super-naked. Styling was spot-on, with a neat half-fairing, and smart-looking seat unit. It wouldn’t be a lot of work to put into production by the looks of it – engine and chassis look like standard GSX-S. We’d like them to give it a bit of a tweak right enough – a 2019 Katana should get a decent lump of extra performance we’d say…

Finally, there was a properly sweet endurance-styled GSX-R special. Massive swingarm, retro seat unit, endurance fuel tank: lovely stuff, and exactly what Suzuki should be making, in our ‘umble opinion. Not so sure about the weird 'Bell helmet' windshield mind.

Get over to the NEC to check the new SV out then, and maybe stick your name down for a sweet PCP deal on a GSX-R1000 R? You know it makes sense…
