Michael Sweeney put on almost the perfect show for the home crowd at the Skerries road races with a treble win on Sunday.

Continuing his successful streak in the national road race championship he took victory in the Open race, Supertwin race and the Grand Final.

He opened his account in the first of the ten race programme by winning the open. Darryl Tweed led off the start on his Wilson Craig Honda, a lead that was short lived, as by the second lap Sweeney on his MJR BMW had taken the lead and opened a gap of over two seconds ahead of the hard chasing Mike Browne - who had almost stalled at the start. Browne aboard his Burrows Engineering/RK Racing Suzuki put in a few hot laps but Sweeney’s lead was never really in jeopardy as he controlled the seven lap race from the front. Taking the flag two seconds ahead of Browne and Darryl Tweed on his supersport 600 machine.

Sweeney’s second win of the day came in a dominant show in the Supertwin race winning by thirty seconds ahead of Eoin O’Siochru.

The race of the day was a closely fought affair between Sweeney and Browne. Sweeney had the early lead until Browne made his move into the lead about mid way through the seven lap encounter. The pair were never more than a bike length apart throughout the race but at the flag it was the Cork man who was the victor by only 0.26 seconds, Sweeney second, with Tweed picking up another podium finish in third.

Browne then went on to take his second win of the day on his Burrows Engineering RK racing MOTO 3 machine. An easier win than the Supersport race he crossed the line four seconds ahead of Eoin O’Siochru. A pretty impressive performance as he is still recovering from his two broken ankles suffered in a crash at Cookstown earlier in the season.

The Grand Final was set to be another Sweeney/Browne battle, with the winner taking the man of the meeting trophy. The pair set off at a blistering pace but the red flags came out on the opening lap when Damian Horan crashed out, without any serious injury.

The restarted race was cut to five laps and saw Sweeney make another flying start ahead of Browne. He maintained his pace  extending his lead lap on lap eventually taking his second big bike win of the day and the Man Of The Meeting crown. Browne was again runner up with Tweed taking his third podium.
