Thruxton BSB: ‘Crash capped off difficult weekend’ for Ryde

Whilst Rich Energy OMG Yamaha teammate Bradley Ray was confirming his place in this year’s Bennetts British Superbike Showdown, Thruxton was a weekend to forget for Kyle Ryde with just three points from the three races.

Thirteenth in race one was followed by 18th in race two, when he ran as high as fifth in the early stages, before a crash in the final race ended his weekend on a low note.

“That wasn’t the weekend I had hoped for,” the Jacksdale rider said.

“Issues beyond our control set us back in race one, then for my race pace to drop away so dramatically in race two was very disappointing.

“We worked something out between races that would let me run with the front guys and my Rich Energy OMG Racing Yamaha R1 felt perfect on the opening laps of the last race. I felt very comfortable behind Hicky and then the crash just capped off a difficult weekend. It’s all behind us now and I’m looking forward to Cadwell Park.”

The results will have left him nervously looking over his shoulder with two rounds and six races to go before the final top eight places are finalised. He still sits in sixth overall, a healthy 58 points clear of ninth, but it’s been 11 races now since he’s finished on the podium with just three top six finishes coming in that period.
