Rain brought an early end to the first day at the Armoy Road Races, just as the two evening events that were to be run the heavens opened leaving the organisers no choice to call a halt.

With nine-time Armoy Race of Legends winner Michael Dunlop withdrawing from the meeting due to a disagreement with the club, Davey Todd was pretty-much unchallenged in both Superbike and Supersport qualifying, and has to be the firm favourite for tomorrow’s Race Of Legends.

First out, the Milenco by Padgett’s Honda rider set the pace in Supersport, clocking a best time of 1’ 45.71 seconds, 1.179 seconds quicker than Paul Jordan on his Prez Racing `Yamaha.

Mike Browne was third quickest on his Burrows Engineering/RK Racing R6. Derek Sheils was fourth in his first road race on board the McAdoo Kawasaki and Adam McLean completed the top five for tomorrow’s grid.

In the big bike session Todd set the first ever 107mph lap around the three-mile County Antrim course beating last year’s fastest - set by Dunlop at 106.9mph - with a new record of 107.093mph.

On lap four the session was halted whenJordan’s R1 blew an engine causing a lengthy delay. The remainder of the session was run later in the afternoon but the conditions weren’t as ideal as earlier and none of the riders managed to improve their times.

Cork man Browne has dominated this year’s Moto3m field and will head tomorrows grid after setting a time 5.6 seconds quicker than his nearest rival Joey Thompson.
